Господа а так вы не пробовали:

RAR a -r -m5 -dh -ep1 -rr -x*.?dx -agyymmdd best g:\best\dbase

где:
a -r -m5 -ep1 всем понятны

далее:
-x[*?dx] - исключая файлы индексов, т.к. они нафиг не нужны в архиве.
-ag[yymmdd] тоже понятно - имя архива содержит ГГММДД
-rr добавляем recovery record

Всю эту радость можно почитать с помощью rar /? > rar-help.txt

А для Novell-а есть прекрасная утиль по имени NWZIP.

Я делаю обновление архива, а не полную перепаковку - существенно быстрее работает. В это случае предложенный вариант не проходи

Пиши вместо ключа "a" "u" и будет апдэйт.
